Two Western monuments might be getting bigger. Plus, National Park Week kicks off, Wifi in campgrounds, summit pose voting update, blooms all over, and Happy Poem in your Pocket Day!
Great post! Yes to Monument expansion! I've been particularly interested in Molok Luyuk for a long while now and visited back in November to learn more about it with a couple of the founders of Tuleyome. It's such a special and sacred landscape and I can't wait for the designation to take place. It will be interesting to see how they work out the management plans - it has the potential to be one of the very few landscapes that is truly co-managed with the Yoche Dehe tribe. It should serve as an important case study moving forward. And typically these designations lead to more funding, which leads to more access, trails, signage, clean up, and infrastructure. Fingers crossed!
And thanks for the Billy Collins reminder. It has been many years since I sat with his language. The end of the thousand miles poem is so beautiful..."pick up my thin pen and write down that bird I hear outside, the one that sings, pauses, and then sings again."
Looking forward to celebrating new Monuments throughout 2024!
