I rarely eat donuts but here in Long Beach we’re blessed with quite a few awesome options. Knead Donuts and Tea for the fancy ones, Simone’s for both excellent daily donuts and custom donuts for special occasions, and Devi’s for vegan donuts. Or is it doughnuts? LA does seem to be the land of fun donut shop architecture, too.

I also have to congratulate you for living in Portland and NOT mentioning Voodoo Doughnuts.

Thanks for these wonderful links! I really appreciated the Appalachian Trail piece.

The wonderful latin phrase (and sometimes overused by yours truly) Solvitur Ambulando literally means "it is solved by walking." It is believed to have originated with the Greek philosopher Diogenes who, after listening to fellow philosopher Zeno of Elea trying to prove that motion was impossible, simply stood up and walked away, muttering solvitur ambulando as he departed. A few centuries later the term was picked up by St. Augustine, who used the expression to infer that theological debates are better “solved by walking” instead of arguing about them while holed up in a room, adding layers of meaning onto the original idea. Thanks for adding your own sentiments!
