Thanks for highlighting the ridiculous lawsuit. Their ridiculous "rebellion" never ceases to amaze me. It's really an attempted land grab of epic proportions. These federal lands were never the States to begin with.
I can't speak for the other states, but I do know in Utah's case, the territory was granted statehood partially *on the condition* that they allowed these lands to be managed by the federal government. In a sane and stable court, this case would be tossed immediately. But these days ... ?
Yeah, these days I'm not so sure. The new states adding their names to the hat certainly doesn't help.
Utah was given 7.5 million acres of land upon statehood in 1896, but the federal lands were never the states to begin with. From the Utah Enabling Act: "That the people inhabiting said proposed State do agree that they FOREVER disclaim all right and title to the unappropriated public lands lying within the boundaries thereof..."
